This group was founded in February 2009, in
order to give residents opposed to the Granite Bay
community plan update a place to organize and be heard. For more than a year we were ignored. A show of hands at the community meeting where
Supervisor Uhler announced the update, showed that the majority
opposed it. The county proceeded to
gather requests for changes. 49 requests
for zoning changes were submitted. 89
requests, another overwhelming majority, requested that the update be cancelled
or make no changes. The county proceeded
to gather public comments on the requests for changes. The planning department again reported that
the majority of responses opposed the proposed changes. Undaunted, at the August 2010 county budget
workshop, Supervisor Uhler proposed spending up to $750,000 to proceed with the
community plan update. Our response was serving him
with notice of intent to recall.
Fortunately, under threat of recall Supervisor Uhler finally
listened to his constituents and the Granite Bay
community plan remains intact with a few minor policy changes.
This group continues to be concerned
about Granite Bay and preserving the rural-residential
community. We feel that it is critical
that county supervisors represent the people without obvious conflicts of
interest. We will support any candidate
that
1)
Has not
accepted the majority of their campaign funding from developers.
2)
Does not
have family members who are county employees.
3)
Is not
employed by (or owner/shareholder of) a company that contracts with the county.
4)
Commits
not to appoint developers or their family members to the planning commission.
5)
Commits to
preserve this unique rural-residential community.
As the 2012 election season develops, we
will email members with information and opportunities to meet or support such
candidates.
